What Are The Best Vending Machine Snacks for the Office?

On Fridays I like to keep it light.  Not make too many important decisions (well besides what’s for dinner) and try not to work my brain too hard. I figure if you’re reading this you probably fall into the same category. So let’s take a break from thinking about networking, interviewing, and resumes, and focus on something even more important: snacks. Now I’ll raise my hand right away and say I’m not usually the first guy in line for the vending machine, but sometimes I like to get my fix in. I’m sure with the pandemic vending machines probably aren’t the most “COVID friendly” machines, but let’s pretend it’s the old days and we can press those beautiful buttons, put our money in or swipe or credit card, and then stick our hands under the glass and get our prize. Here’s my thoughts on the best vending machine snacks you can get:

  • Anything Gummy: Now let’s be very clear, not all vending machines are created equally. So if your office vending machine doesn’t have anything gummy, my condolences, you’re excused and can skip to the next bullet. If you do have a gummy option, I’d recommend Sour Patch Kids. These little guys are sweet and sour a perfect mix and give you a nice afternoon jolt (for about 30 seconds but that’s beside the point). If you aren’t into anything sour, go for Swedish Fish or a traditional mixed berry fruit snack. You just can’t go wrong.
  • Twix: Now you may say, but Joe, there are so many other candies that are better than Twix. I’d disagree, and I’d also say, with Twix, you get two times the candy and it’s really a good bang for the buck. Not to mention, it is the best chcolate candy out there. So grab a Twix and even if it’s not your favorite, it’ll keep you occupied for a little while.
  • Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups: I don’t think I’ve actually met anyone who doesn’t like peanut butter, including my son who lately has been picky about everything lately. It’s another snack with not just one candy inside, usually there’s two, which makes the fun last longer.
  • Kettle Cooked Chips: If you’re gonna go for a chip, you gotta go for a beautiful, crunchy kettle cooked chip. I prefer Cape Cod, but unless you are working in an office in Cape Cod, they probably don’t have those in your vending machine. They aren’t too greasy either so you don’t have to worry about grease all over your paperwork.

I know I probably missed a bunch that you’d have on your list like Kit-Kats, Skittles, etc but those were the top four things that jumped out at me. If for some reason you have a Pop Tart on your list, I won’t judge you but really? Anyway, let me know your favorites and enjoy your Casual Friday. I’ll leave you with this inspirational quote to head into the weekend from a famous philosopher…Steve from Blue’s Clues, “If you use your mind, take one step at a time, you can do anything…that you wanna do.”
